Cunning and the divine. Messenger of Inari, shape-shifter, trickster.

The fox mask is a popular modern motif, the animal itself the older one. Nine tails mean age and power. White foxes belong to the shrine; red foxes to the folktales. Often drawn with fire (kitsunebi) at the tips of the tails.
